Bangor City 4 v 3 Cambrian & C WP Under 19 League

PLAY OFF FINAL

WP Under 19 League
Bangor City 4 v 3 Cambrian & Clydach

Bangor ended extra time with eight men against ten but still managed to prove themselves the top academy U19s in Welsh domestic football.
This amazing game sprang to life on fifteen minutes when Cambrian goalkeeper Tom Miles brought down Sion Bradley for a penalty.
Up stepped the prolific Corrig McGonigle to punish the mistake and put City ahead.
Pacey winger Bradley went close again but fired over. But on 33 minutes he got his name on the scoresheet as Sion Bradley beat the south Walian defence to make it two nil.
But three minutes before the break Cambrian & Clydach struck back though as Welsh Schools striker Josh Maksimovic found the back of the net to halve the deficit.

Half Time
Bangor City 2 v 1 Cambrian & Clydach

The second half was twenty minutes old when midfield general Ifan Emlyn Jones was shown red for his second yellow card, and City were down to ten men but still had the lead.
As time ran out Bangor sent on Alex Boss for opening goalscorer McGonigle and then Sam Ashworth for Ryan Owen.
It looked as if City would hang on, and even more so when Cambrian midfielder David Thomas was also sent off in the closing minutes.
But deep into six added minutes the south Walians equalised as sub Killian Kingston beat Antoni Sanrowski from close range to send the match into extra time.
So into the added half hour. A further setback for Bangor as Shaun Cavanagh limped off through injury. With all three subs already used this reduced the blues to nine men.
A minute before the end of the first period Sion Bradley made it 3-2 for City to continue his impressive goalscoring form.
And the odds were evened as goalscorer Killian Kingston was sent off to level the sides at nine apiece.
But with nine minutes left who else but Sion Bradley made it 4-2 with his hatrick strike to set the blues surely on the way to victory. Then with just two minutes left Cai Owen was red carded and a penalty awarded which Will Taylor duly converted for a 4-3 scoreline as the eight blues youngsters faced tricky closing spell against nine.
Happily for City the score stayed unaltered and it was Bangor who could launch some noisy celebrations once the final whistle blew.
Credit to the visitors who formed a guard of honour and whose youngsters were honourable in defeat. Both sides had contributed fully to a fantastic final.

Bangor City 6 v 1 Cefn Druids WP Under 19 League

WP Under 19 League
Bangor City 6 v 1 Cefn Druids

Bangor wrapped up the Under 19 Development League north title with a fine win over Cefn Druids at Nantporth.

And such was the determination of the young blues ot leave nothing to chance that all six goals came in a scintillating first half that put the result - and the destination of the title trophy - beyond all doubt.

The bare facts are that leading goalscorer Corrig McGonigle led the way with a first half hatrick which included two penalties.
Partner in crime Shaun Cavanagh netted twice to put the result beyond the young Druids and sixth goal was added by the fleet of foot Sion Bradley.
But the bigger picture is a tremendous team effort from all the players who have worn the blue shirt this season, including the very occasional first teamer, and of course the efforts of Dave Cavanagh, Nigel Barry, Mel Jones and Myrddin Hughes.

The second half was a more sober affair with Bangor clearly - and rightly feeling the job was done.
The only goal of the second period a consolation strike for The Druids.

Bangor City 5 v 3 The New Saints WP Under 19 League

WP Under 19 League
Bangor City 5 v 3 The New Saints

Bangor took a huge step towards the Development North (U19s) League with a resounding win over chief rivals TNS at Nantporth on Wednesday evening.

Both sides field
ed young starting line ups with 20 year old Iolo Hughes the old head in the blues side, set against 27 year old Alex Darlington upfront for the Saints after an absence through injury.

And it could scarcely have gone better for the young blues as defender Cai Owen headed the home side into an early led.
Soon after Sion Bradley had his progress into the box halted by goalkeeper Andy Wycherley and the prolific Corrig McGonigle netted from the penalty spot to take his tally to 25 goals for the season for the U19s.
And two nil quickly became three as the simply irresistible flying winger Sion Bradley beat
Leicester City trialist Wycherley from the left to put City well clear of the Shropshire Lads.

The rest of the first half calmed down a little as TNS earned parity but when the half time whistle blew Bangor led three nil to the delight of the home crowd.

Half Time
Bangor City 3 v 0 The New Saints

The surprise introduction at the interval was 37 year old former Wales International centrehalf Steve Evans who replaced Michael Owen.
And the change appeared to have worked when Wales Under 16 International midfielder Nyasha Mwamuka drove the ball through his former team mate Antoni Sarnowski to reduce the deficit.
But Bangor responded immediately as midfielder Ifan Emlyn Jones netted to make the score four one. And moments later rightback Matt Perry saw red and after a second yellow card for handball to leave the visitors with ten men. Harsh decision in fairness.
The ten men responded though through Lewis Evans as both sides committed to attack.
But it was Bangor who once again got the ball in the net as the pacey Sion Bradley netted for a 5-2 advantage.
The visitors were not going down without a fight though and Wrexham based central midfielder Greg Evans netted a rebound after a Lewis Evans shot cannoned back off the woodwork.
But the final score remained at 5-3 and to the delight of the home players, management and supporters, the league title very much within reach with two games remaining.

Bangor City 3 v 6 Newport County FAW Youth Cup

FAW Youth Cup Quarter Final
Bangor City 3 v 6 Newport County

Bangor crashed out of the FAW Youth Cup at Nantporth against Football League opponents Newport County.

Anyone with an enquiring mind might well wonder how Newport are allowed to play in both English and Welsh Youth Cups, but putting such mysteries aside they did offer stern and worthwhile opposition to a City side who have been successful in domestic competion this season so far.
And that success looked like it could go on as Corrig McGonigle put the young blues ahead with a well taken goal as he held off County defenders to beat Elliot Matthews with a well place shot on ten minutes.
But this served to sting the visitors into action and on twenty minutes they drew level as midfielder Rhys Kavanagh netted.
Things went from bad to worse for Bangor on the half hour mark.
First centreback Adam Pritchard put through his own net and then Moudou Touray made it three one.  This was really harsh on Pritchard who has been a rock at the heart of the U19s defence this season.
Bangor were then forced into a change as Alex Boss replaced winger Harry Galeotti.
The game was still in the balance as the two sides trudged off for the interval but nerves had certainly got the better of Bangor and the more experienced English League youngsters had one foot in the Semi Finals.

Half Time
Bangor City 1 v 3 Newport County

No sooner had the second half got underway than the bigger, stronger County side pushed City back to earn a penalty. The spot kick was taken byNathan Mathias but he could not get the better of Antoni Sarnowski who saved well.
Bangor then sent on Sam Ashworth for Meredydd Derbyshire but it was Newport who continued to take their chances as Dafydd Jones netted twice in quick successionto to put the visitors four and then five one ahead.
It got worse as Corey Shephard beat the wall with a well placed freekick and City were down and out.
But this is a Bangor side full of spirit, leading scorer Shaun Cavanagh made it two for the home side with his twentieth goal of the season, 21st if first team strikes are included.
Soon after sub Sam Ashworth grabbed his first goal for the club (at youth level) to make it six three.
But whilst the scoreline improved the overall result was not in doubt and Newport duly took their place in the Semi Final.
Bangor could feel pleased with their overal Welsh Cup run and now - as they say - time to concentrate on the league.

The New Saints 3 v 0 Bangor City WP Under 19 League

WP Under 19 League
The New Saints 3 v 0 Bangor City

A three nil defeat was harsh on Bangor's youngsters who played for eighty minutes with ten men after Sam Faulkner went for an early bath.

The home side included Andy Wycherley, Ryan Pryce and Greg Draper w
ho had been involved in the Word Cup Final at Llandudno the previous day, and James Jones who was on loan at Gresford earlier in the season. To be fair other than Draper they are all youngsters.

The referee, overweight and off the pace, did not impress. But he got the first big decison right on ten minutes as he dismissed blues midfielder Sam Faulkner for a two footed challenge on half way.
But Bangor responded well to this setback and Shaun Cavanagh and Corrig McGonigle both shot straight at Leicester City trialist Andy Wycherley in the home goal.
On 25 minutes the Bangor bench were off their seats as Nyasha Mwamuka caught blues defender Dylan Thomas and received a yellow card. They clearly hoped for red which in all honesty would have been harsh.
Moments later New Zealand international Greg Draper went close for TNS before young blues stopper Antoni Sarnowski was laid out by a clash with one of his former team mates.
Bangor went close as Shaun Cavanagh dragged his long range effort a yard wide from thirty and moments later, as half time loomed, he repeated the effort but this time the ball flew over into the car park behind the goal at the Burma Road end.

Half Time
The New Saints 0 v 0 Bangor City

No changes at the interval but the game was influenced in no small way by the events of the opening five minutes.
Bangor went close as Harry Galeotti ran clear but his low shot clipped Andy Wycherley and deflected wide for a corner. Minutes later the home side made City pay as a cross from the right was swept home first time by Lewis Evans from the edge of the box.
Bangor continued to make a game of it despite the numerical disadvantage. Centreback Adam Pritchard as ever prominent, right back Cai Owen purposeful and energetic, pocket battleship Ifan Emlyn Jones fiercely competitive in midfield.
By now Greg Draper had drifted back to midfield to good effect. Few of the Bangor youngsters will have played against a full international before but the were not overawed. City pressed high up the pitch and exposed some defensive indecision.
Both sides made a change on the hour with Harry Galeotti replaced by Alex Boss and Jacob Farley came on for Christoph Azimale.  A moment of controvesy is never far away. The previously booked Nyasha Mwamuka felled Cai Owen on the edge of the blues box and might have seen his second yellow. Certainly the referee gave City the freekick but proceeded to book a Bangor player for comments passed instead!
Ifan Emlyn Jones saw his shot saved by Wycherley but it was blues keeper Antoni Sarnowski who caught the eye with a couple of good saves from Lewis Evans and then Harrison Millington.
On 89 minutes Izaak Lambert made it two nil as he latched onto a well weighted pass from Greg Draper. Then a minute later Jacob Farley added a third as City faded on the 3g.
The final action belonged to Shaun Cavanagh whose fierce dipping volley dipped just over from the left. The inconsistent and inept little referee then blew for time, goodness me I thought the Welsh Premier ones were poor..

WP Under 19 League
Cefn Druids 1 v 2 Bangor City

A seventh win on the trot for Bangor 's youngsters courtesy of a late winner from substitute Harry Galeotti at The Rock.

The opening quarter hour was even enough with Dylan Thomas going close fro Bangor with an overhead kick and Phil Warrington squaring to Shaun Cavanagh whose shot was saved by Druids stopper Callum Reddington Geary.
But on 16minutes the hosts took the lead. Ieuan Jones netting from close range.
Bangor responded and might have equalised within a minute as Phil Warrington ran on goal but fired weakly at Geary. But blues keeper Antoni Sarnowski was into the action with a great save from Kevin Day and moments later the Polish glovesman was at full stretch again to keep City within one goal.
Ten minutes before the interval both Dylan Thomas and Sam Faulkner were yellow carded for comments passed following a penalty appeal in the Druids box. In the closing minutes both Ifan Emlyn Jones and Jake Boss went close as City stepped up the pressure but the home side resisted and trotted off at the interval with a single goal advantage.
Half Time
Cefn Druids 1 v 0 Bangor City

Midfielder Ifan Emlyn Jones went close again moments after the restart with Bangor clearly intent on getting something for their efforts. Phil Warrington hit the post from point blank range and Sam Faulkner shot across goal with no one able to get the vital touch.
Ten minutes into the second period a change for Bangor as Harry Galeotti replaced young Jake Boss who had shown some good touches on both wings. Cefn striker Day hit the post from fifteen yards before midfield schemer Sam Faulkner had a shot saved by Geary.
Antoni Sarnowski made a couple of great saves including one from Cefn's No 17 before within 70 minutes gone Gwion Williams replaced Phil Warrington.
Shaun Cavanagh went close again for City before Gethin Roberts replaced Meredydd Derbyshire. Bangor were pushing Cefn back now with Sam Faulkner dominant in midfield and the two left footed centrebacks Adam Pritchard and Dylan Thomas outstanding.
On 81 minutes a deserved equaliser duly arrived. Shaun Cavanagh took his tally for the season into double figures with a calm finish from eight yards. Cefn seemed drained by this but battle recommenced with Ifan Emlyn Jones unleashing a fourty yarder which screamed wide before Kevin Day went close once more.
Cefn then lost their No 12 for a second yellow (and red) challenge. Down to ten men they sought a draw but a minute into added time the young blues found the winner. A surging run from Sam Faulkner ended in a slide rule pass for Harry Galeotti who kept his composure to finish confidently from the left for his fifth of the season.
With a couple more minutes of added time gone the referee blew for time and City had notched a seventh straight win - including two in seven days against the Ancients.

Bangor City 7 v 0 Newtown WP Under 19 League

WP Under 19 League
Bangor City 7 v 0 Newtown

A third win on the bounce for Bangor's youngsters and another clean sheet to boot.

It could scarcely have got off to a better start when Dylan Thomas, one of last season's survivors, opened the scoring inside three minutes.
Twenty minutes later Harry Galeotte doubled the advantage but moments later City were forced into a change as Ryan Owen came on to replace Deagan Noon Booton.
Two minutes from half time last season's leading goalscorer Shaun Cavanagh made it three nil.
So City trotted off with a commanding three nil lead under their belts and with Newtown fearing the worst.

Half Time
Bangor City 3 v 0 Newtown

The visitors stemmed to blue tide for the opening quarter hour of the second period but Bangor swung back into goalscoring action on the hour as Alex Boss made it four nil and ended any hopes of a Robins revival.
Goalscorer Boss was promptly replaced by Phil Warrington who made it five within two minutes of entering the field of play.
On 65 minutes it was six nil as
Harry Galeotte grabbed his second of the afternoon, two minutes after which Gruffydd Owen replaced midfield general Sam Faulkner.
For twenty minutes City failed to score but with five minutes left on the clock a seventh goal duly arrived as Ifan Emlyn Jones netted to complete the scoring to the delight of the home players and supporters.
A great win for Bangor and one which sets an impressive pace at the top of the Welsh Premier development table.

WP Under 19 League
Prestatyn Town 0 v 6 Bangor City

A convincing away win for the young Bangor side with some new and more familiar names on the scoresheet.

It took City fourteen minutes to break through the Prestatyn defence, and when they did so it was Shaun Cavanagh who broke the deadlock.
Four minutes later his partner in crime Phil Warrington doubled the lead and from then on City scarcely looked back.
Five minutes before the interval Harry Galeotti made it three nil and as the young citizens walked off they could sense another convincing win was within their grasp against Prestatyn.

Half Time
Prestatyn Town 0 v 3 Bangor City

Six minutes after the restart Ifan Emlyn Jones made it four nil and it was now just a case of how many the visitors could score.
Just after the hour mark Alex Boss replaced goalscorer Harry Galeotti as Ryan Owen came on for Deagan Nunn Booton. One final change on 73 minutes Gwion Williams replaced Phil Warrington.
And it was substitute Alex Boss who made an impact with eleven minutes left on the clock to make it five nil for Bangor.
Finally midfielder Sam Faulkner netted to make it six nil with eight minutes left to play. The home side were relieved to hear the final whistle as the young blues romped to their second big win of the season.

WP Under 19 League
Bangor City 5 v 0 Rhyl

Bangor kicked off their 2015-16 Development squad campaign with a convincing win over coast rivals Rhyl at Nantporth.

And it was a case of unlucky thirteen for the Lilywhites as that was how many minutes it took Harry Galeotti to break the deadlock and send City into the lead.
Just after the half hour mark midfielder Sam Faulkner doubled the advantage and it was with a two nil lead that the young blues left the field at half time.

Half Time
Bangor City 2 v 0 Rhyl

The second half was scarcely under way when Dylan Thomas replaced Sam Faulkner and only five minutes had passed since the restart when Phil Warrington trotted on in place of young Alex Boss.
It took Phil Warrington just seven minutes to get his season underway with a 57th minute third goal for City.

From then on though it was the Shaun Cavanagh show as last season's leading goalscorer grabbed a brace inside three minutes, with strikes on 72 and 75 minutes.
With thirteen minutes left on the clock Gwion Williams came on for Adam Pritchard.
That effectively ended the game as a contest and with a blank final quarter hour the two sides left the field on ninety minutes with Bangor clear winners.
